William Lee Jones, 62, of the 1100 block of Railroad Avenue died Dec. 11, 2005 at his residence. He was a native of Nansemond County. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Jones Crocker.

He was a graduate of East Suffolk High School and attended Bluefield State College (West Virginia). He was a veteran of the U. S. Army where he served as a warrant officer. He was the first black bank teller in Alexandria. He was employed at the Norfolk Naval Base for four years. He was a member of St. Timothy Baptist Church where he served on the Male Usher Ministry and Food Bank Ministry. He was also a member of the Suffolk Chapter, DAV and the 20-30 Military Retiree Club.

He is survived by two sons, Shelton Jones of Suffolk and Lament Jones of North Carolina; his parents, Henry L. Jones Jr. and Margie Cook Jones of Suffolk; two brothers, Charlie C. Jones of Baltimore, Md. and Terrence Jones of Suffolk; one uncle, Oscar Jones of Arlington; three aunts, Bernice Green, Elaine Webb, and Mellowese Regus, all of Alexandria; a devoted cousin, Samuel Almond of Suffolk and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 16, 2005 at St. Timothy Baptist Church by the Rev. Thomas Harden Jr. Interment will be in the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
