Marion B. Irby

Marion Braudrick Irby, 94, died Dec. 27, 2005, in Suffolk, Va. She was a native of Richmond, Va., born on Nov. 23, 1911, the third of six children born to the late George and Hattie Braudrick.

She was married to the late T. Floyd Irby.

She was a life-long member of the Leigh Street Baptist Church in Richmond and retired from the Bank of America (then Nations Bank). In 1971 she was elected as the first woman officer of the Virginia Trust Company.

She is survived by her son the Rev. T. Floyd Irby, Jr. and daughter-in-law Christine Irby of Suffolk; she was “Meema” to her five grandchildren, Jennifer Polly and her husband, Matthew, of San Francisco, CA, Matthew Irby and his wife, Tammy, of Baltimore, Md., Joshua Irby and his wife, Ann Douglas, of Richmond, Kathryn Irby of Richmond, and Andrew Irby of Richmond; one great-grandchild, James Speed Polly of San Francisco, Calif.; two sisters, Ruth Warren and Katherine Sandridge of Richmond; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends at Woody Funeral Home’s Atlee Chapel, Richmond, from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday.

A memorial service will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at Leigh Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Davis L. Smith, Jr. Interment will be private. Memorials may be made to the Leigh Street Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 517 N. 25th Street, Richmond, Va., 23223.
