All of Suffolk’s Constitutional officers have endorsed the candidacy of Lt. Gov. Mills E, Godwin Jr. for governor of Virginia in the Democratic primary set for July 13, and the November general election.

The statement, released

Friday, was signed by W. T. Myrick, commissioner of revenue; Moody E. Stallings, commonwealth attorney; George S. Swain, treasurer; Lawrence Oliver, city sergeant and William S. Holland, clerk of the circuit court.

Visiting Sister

Mrs. Roy Belcher of Norfolk is visiting her sister, Mrs. Geneva Asbell on the Whitemarsh Road.

Free Pine Seedlings

The Suffolk Kiwanis Club is offering small quantities of pine seedlings for lawn planting. They are available at Suffolk Tent and Awning according to O. G. Kennedy , program chairman. The seedlings will be given away until the supply of 2000 is exhausted. Last year they were gone in 10 days.

Whaleyville Bounces Back Into Divisional Cage Race

For a team that hasn’t played in almost a month, Whaleyville’s Panthers looked pretty sharp last Friday in handing Franklin its first league defeat. “We played pretty good ball”, coach Bill Frazier conceded after his boys had trounced the Broncos in a Western Division District 1 Group 2 game at Whaleyville, 55-41.

Who Can Beat BTW Bears?

Booker T trounced previously unbeaten Carver of Chesapeake by an 80-48 score. They used an all-court press throughout the entire game, for the first time this season. Charles Christian, the Booker T. Coach said his boys turned in a very good performance.

When asked about the tactics he used, he said that due to Carver’s great height advantage, he was forced to that type of defense, and it was a deciding factor in the game. With William Lee, John Reddick and Alfred Copeland pacing the attack, Booker T. scored 27 points in the final period.

Suffolk Jaycees Take Part in National Week

Local Suffolk Jaycee officers William F. (Bill) McKinney, pres.; William M. Carr and R. W. Tolleson, vice presidents; Jack Vaughan and David M. Findley, corresponding and general secretaries led the 50 member club in observing the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Jaycees. Members of the board of directors are E. Everett Bagnell, Benjamin A. Plewes, M. E. (Bobby) Floyd, J. C. Harry III, William M. Birdsong Jr., and William S. Peachy.

Club Holds Tasty Party

Twenty three members of the Crittenden Eclipse and Hobson Home Demonstration Club attended a Tasty Party at Vepco in Suffolk January 13. Mrs. Cara Brinkley, Vepco home economist, spoke to the group on “Freezer Tips” and distributed recipes for the dishes to be served to the group.

Mrs. Marshall Beale, club pres. Announced that the next regular meeting of the club will be held at the home of Mrs. W. C. Smith of

Hobson.

Box Elder Club Holds Meeting

The Box Elder Home Demonstration Club met in the Community House with Mrs. Walter Simmons, pres. as hostess. The chaplain, Mrs. Harvey Norfleet, Jr, conducted devotionals.

She read from St. John, Chapter 8. After which the homemakers’ creed was repeated in unison. Regular club business was discussed.

The hostess served refreshments to Mrs. Esther Hare, Miss Jennie Daughtrey, Mrs. Wesley Moore, Mrs. O. L. Duke, Mrs. Edward Briley, Mrs. Willis Eley, Mrs. Noah Brown, and Mrs. Mills March.
