Reeves and Cross married

Kathryn Laney Reeves and Harry Lee Cross IV, were married on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, at half past five in St. Andrews By-the-Sea Episcopal church, Nags Head, N.C. The Rev. Canon David Hugh Upton, of Greenville, S.C., and the Rev. Dr. Malcom Chester McIver, of Wilmington, N.C., officiated at the ceremony. The parents of the bride hosted a reception at Duck Woods Country Club in Southern Shores, N.C., following the

ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Charles Reeves, of Southern Shores. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Jack Powell Keith, of West Point, Ga., and the late Mr. Keith, and Mr. Charles Monroe Reeves and the late Mrs. Lois Laney Reeves. Kate is a graduate of Virginia Episcopal School and Washington and Lee University. She teaches AP Modern European History and serves as the Director of College Counseling at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lee Cross III, of Suffolk. He is the grandson of Mrs. Harry Lee Cross Jr., and the late Mr. Cross of Suffolk, and the late Rev. Dr. and Mrs. William McIlwaine Thompson, of Richmond and Virginia Beach. Lee is a graduate of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy and James Madison University. He is employed with Remax Acrosstown Realty in Suffolk.

The bride’s sisters, Miss Sarah King Reeves and Miss Caroline Herring Reeves, of Southern Shores, served as maids of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Gray Harden Raniella, of Stafford, Va., Miss Brooke Allison Belasco, of San Antonio, Texas, Miss Lucy Wright Rankin, of Athens, Ga., Mrs. Josie Fletcher Reeves, sister-in-law of the bride, of Raleigh, N.C., Mrs. Melissa Gainey Cross, sister-in-law of the groom and Miss Alice Ritchie Cross, sister of the groom, both of Suffolk.

The groom’s father, Mr. Harry Lee Cross III, and his brother, Mr. Joseph McIlwaine Cross, both of Suffolk, served as the best men. Groomsmen were Mr. Timothy Robin Lee, of Edinburgh, Scotland, Mr. Charles Powell Reeves, brother of the bride, of Raleigh, Mr. Charles Sloan Phillips, of Richmond, Mr. Andrew Charles Liddle, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mr. Douglas Ray Parks and Mr. Chad Andrew Rountree, both of Suffolk.

Mr. James Aldwin Hight, of Lynchburg, Va., and Mrs. Gladys Hunt Lawrence, of Suffolk, served as lay readers for the wedding. Mr. David Spangler, of Manteo, N.C., was the organist for the ceremony. Mr. Orme Thompson, of Charlottesville, Miss Grace Saunders, Miss Alyssa Grigg and Miss Alice Persons, all of Suffolk, were program attendants.

The bride was honored at a luncheon given by Mrs. James Perry and Mrs. Chris Jones, of Southern Shores, on Friday, Nov. 18. A dinner party followed the rehearsal and was hosted by the parents of the groom on Friday evening at Duck Woods Country Club.

The bride and groom honeymooned in Asheville, N.C, and now reside in Suffolk.
