Suffolk Police still are investigating a single-vehicle accident that happened at Lake Cohoon and Lake Kilby roads Wednesday afternoon, resulting in the death of one Suffolk teen and serious injury to a second.

Police identified the driver as James Lee Williams, 19, of Old Myrtle Road in Suffolk. As of press time Thursday, Williams was in critical condition at Sentara Norfolk

General Hospital.

The passenger, who died at the scene, was Thomas P. Delaney Jr., 18.

Delaney lived off of Lake Cohoon Road, not far from where the accident occurred.

Police said they were notified shortly after 2 p.m. of a vehicle that had run off the road in the 2200 block of Lake Cohoon Road.

When emergency personnel arrived, they found the single vehicle had traveled about 195 feet off the road and struck a tree. Williams was taken from the car and transported to the hospital.

Delaney was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police do not know the exact time of the accident, but believe that some time had passed before the vehicle was spotted by a passerby.

Excessive speed was possibly a factor in the accident, according to investigating officer Joshua Clock.
