April 6, 2006

Nell Bradshaw Green, 75, passed away peacefully at home, answering the Lord’s call on Thursday, April 6, 2006. In her last moments she opened her eyes one last time to see her much-beloved family at her bedside: son, Michael L. Green; son, C. Thomas Green III; and her husband of almost 54 years, Clyde T. Green Jr.

Originally from Suffolk, Nell graduated from Longwood College and briefly taught school at Suffolk High School. She was the daughter of the late Edgar Luter and Nellie Heffington Bradshaw.

Nell will be missed for her wonderful energy, winning smile and sense of humor.

She was a member of the Tuckahoe Woman’s Club and the River Road Garden Club, winning many awards for her innovative floral designs.

Nell could see art in almost anything and display it so you wished you had one too: a paper wasp’s nest, an old sewing basket, those great bunnies!

Athletic and smart, she loved to play tennis and bridge, and to dance. A die-hard U.Va., ODU, VMI and Redskins fan, she was never happier than hosting parties for their sons’ friends to support their teams.

She is also survived by her own nephews, Woody and Wayne Harrell, as well as in-laws and their families that have been as close as her own: Eleanor Poole, Shirley Price, Bobbie Proffitt and Richard Green.

The family will receive friends in Richmond on Saturday, April 8, from 3-6 p.m., and services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m., both at Bennett Funeral Home (West Chapel), 1102 W. Broad St., Richmond.

Interment will take place on Monday at 1 p.m. in Suffolk at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
