Shemika D. Savage, 23, of the 100 block of Raleigh Avenue, Suffolk, died April 8, 2006 in Sentara Obici Hospital. She was born in Suffolk to Anita B. Savage and the late Joseph Savage.

She was a 2001 graduate of Nansemond River High School and received her A.S. degree from Louisburg College, Louisburg, NC and B.S. degree from Old Dominion University. She also attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Tidewater Community College. She was currently employed with the Suffolk Public Schools as a teachers assistant. She was a former teacher in a Little Leaders Day Care Center in Jacksonville, FL and Assistant at Medallion School Partnership. She was a former member of St. John Church of Christ and was currently a member of Faith Temple Apostolic Ministries (Apostolic) and a member of the Sisters of Pride, Mass Choir, and Kings Kids of America.

She is survived by her mother, Anita B. Savage of Suffolk; one sister, Millicent Jones of Portsmouth; three brothers, Thomas Savage of North Carolina, Dieon Savage of Suffolk, and LaTroy Butler (Marvina) of Kileen, TX; maternal grandparents, Emilie and Tommie Butler of Suffolk. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Ruth Savage and James Gatling and maternal great grandparents, Beacher and Annie Whitfield Strothers. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins; devoted friend, Tracey Thomas; special friends, Shelonda Majette and Ronald Goodman; special cousins, LaCretia Boone, Devona Harden, Jennifer Cherry, and Lakeshia Cherry; and Second Mother, Mrs. Pamela Baker.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2006 in Faith Temple Ministries (Apostolic), 476 Wellons Street. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
