Hazel Carr Daughtrey, 74, widow of Jasper Daughtrey Jr., died April 19, 2006, at Southampton Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Isle of Wight County, and was a daughter of the late George W. and Mary Turner Carr. She was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church, longtime Sunday school teacher of the Kingdom Builders Sunday School Class, and a member of the Eager Beavers Senior Adult group. Hazel was a graduate of Madison College and taught third grade at Oceana before her marriage to Jasper. A master homemaker, Hazel enjoyed crocheting and making afghans, and giving them away along with her homemade jams and pickles. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, feeding and watching birds, and being interested in the activities of her children and grandchildren, especially Virginia Tech football, and Southampton Speedway racing.

Survivors include a daughter, Janet D. Brinkley and husband, Fred; two sons, Ronald C. Daughtrey and wife, Ella; and Gary N. Daughtrey, all of Suffolk; two sisters, Helen C. Hoslland of Suffolk and Betty Lou Presson of Carrsville; two brothers, Jack Carr of Carrsville and John T. Carr of Windsor; five grandchildren, Carson L. Daughtrey, Lynsey B. Daughtrey, Kellie R. Daughtrey, Mary Beth Johnson and husband Ryan, and M. Jill Mizelle and husband Jonathan. Mrs. Daughtrey was predeceased by a baby daughter, Donna.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Beaver Dam Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Richard L. Peerey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, from 7 to 8 p.m. today, and all times at the residence of Ronald and Ella Daughtrey, 1380 Longstreet Lane. The family suggests memorials be made to the Beaver Dam Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 3539 Carrsville Hwy., Franklin, VA 23851.
