John Henry Boykins, affectionately known as “Fate,” departed his life in his home on April 23, 2006. He was born on January 15, 1955 and was a resident of Suffolk. He was a long time employee at RCR Farm Inc.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Hamlin Boykins, and parents, John Henry Boykins and Louise Owen Boykins.

“Fate” leaves behind to cherish his memory a very special friend Linda Douglas; three sons Derick Douglas, John Henry Douglas and Jeffrey Lenbale Hamlin (Tamika) all of Suffolk; daughter Judy Douglas of Suffolk; two step sons; three grandchildren Justin Teyee Hamlin, Zion Boone, and Mya Miller all of Suffolk; three brothers Roosevelt, Thomas, and Samuel David Boykins all of Suffolk; nine sisters Eula, Janice, Shirley, Laverne, Doretha Boykins, Darlice Baton and Bessie Douglas all of Suffolk, Mary Holley of Norfolk, Cora- Lee Manley of Patterson, N.J.; one sister- in -law Laverne Newson Boykins; three brothers-in-law James Lee Douglas, Welton Holley, and Alvester Simmons; and a host of nieces; nephews; great nieces; great nephews; great- great nieces; great- great nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Boykins will be on view 12-8 p.m. and wake service 7-8 p.m. Thursday, April 27 at the funeral home. The family will receive visitors at 405 Cullodan Street, Suffolk. A funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 28 at T.E. Cooke- Overton Funeral Home. Interment will immediately follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

The family will assemble 1:45 p.m. Friday at Cullodan Street for the funeral procession.
