Speaking out for higher taxes?

Suffolk City Council will have a public hearing Wednesday night on the proposed FY07 operating budget, which is expected to be unveiled earlier in the day.

What do you think the odds are that several people will speak at the hearing in favor of not lowering the tax rate much, if at all?

Personally, I can’t comprehend feeling so strongly about keeping taxes as high possible that I would give up an evening at home resting or doing something with my family to drive to City Hall, sit for a long time on uncomfortable wooden benches, and wait my turn to encourage city officials to take every bit of my money they feel like they can get away with taking. I’d barely do that for a hefty tax rebate.

I just don’t get it. These same people probably argue with car salesmen to go up on the price of the car they want to buy.

If I were Mike Duman, Lydia Duke, Tom Barton or any other area car dealer, I’d be watching the public hearing and get the names and addresses of those speaking out for higher taxes and get them on my mailing list.
