Two local businesses combined their expertise last month in a new enterprise that will bring together food and vending services in a “unique” way.

“It’s not your typical vending company,” said Michael Dilday, president and chief executive officer of Supreme Foods, Inc.

Officials of the company announced March 3 that they have formed Supreme Vending, LLC. and purchased certain assets of Dennis Foods division of  Tidewater Coffee Distributors, LTD. 

Protecting the relationships with both companies’ customers is their No. 1 priority, Dilday said. Those who are used to dealing with Dennis Foods can rest assured that quality and service still will be top notch.

Supreme Foods, Inc., headquartered in Suffolk, has been an independent, family-owned, foodservice distribution company serving the area since 1973, according to a press release. 

With more than 130 employees, Supreme Foods, Inc. services more than 1,000 restaurants and institutions throughout Virginia and North Carolina. 

Dennis Foods, established in 1979, is the largest privately owned snack and beverage vending company, according to the release. It serves public schools throughout Virginia and the Carolinas.

The company has specialized in providing nutritious products to public schools via more than 2,000 vending machines.

“I’ve personally spoken with many of the directors of the schools and they are very excited about the partnership, Dilday said.

“Many directors spoke about how customer driven the Dennis’ are n that’s also one of the strengths of Supreme Foods.  The personalized service that both companies have delivered so successfully over many years is partly due to being independent and family owned – customers love it. 

“We’re very similar and the opportunities are great. I believe we will be very successful in this venture and Supreme Foods will be able to compete for more than just the vending business in the schools.” 

Supreme Vending began servicing Dennis Foods’ customers March 1, and the Dennis family will be joining the Supreme team, with Dave Dennis heading Supreme Vending. 

“I am excited,” Dennis said. “I am thrilled that we have this opportunity and glad that our customers are happy.”
