Knights’ knuckler drops Norfolk
Charlotte 7, Tides 2
Charlotte tallied six runs in the top of the seventh inning, knocking off the Tides, 7-2, Thursday night at Harbor Park.
With the score tied at 1-1 and one out in the seventh, nine straight Knight batters reached base to blow open what had been a pitcher’s duel. Charlotte had six singles and a double to go with a walk and a hit by pitch in the decisive frame, improving their record to a league-best 37-15.
Norfolk starter John Maine, making a rehab appearance with the Tides, pitched very effectively in six innings of work but did not factor in the decision. Maine yielded just one run on five hits without walking a batter.
Michael Tucker and Juan Tejeda each had two hits apiece for the Tides, while Victor Diaz added an RBI double in the loss.
Knuckleballer Charlie Haeger (6-0) picked up the win for Charlotte, allowing one run on seven hits in seven innings. Haeger leads the International League with a 0.97 ERA.
