Love the beach?

Love tennis, too?

Combine the two and head to Virginia Beach with a racket in hand to hit tennis balls on the sand.

Beach tennis is played on a regulation beach volleyball court.

Using regulation tennis rackets, two players on each team try to hit a tennis ball back and forth, directly over the net, without letting it hit the sand. Only one hit per team is allowed on each volley and scoring is the same as in tennis: 15 – 30 – 40, with no-ad at deuce. If a player’s serve hits the net and goes over, it counts-just as in beach volleyball.

In addition to a pro level competition to win money, each event will include teaching clinics for adults and children who want to learn how to play beach tennis.

Beach tennis announces, &uot;Our goal is to make your tennis racket as common an item in your beach bag as your sunscreen.&uot;

So for anyone heading to the beach this summer, why not bring a tennis racket while enjoying the sun, sand and surf, and play some tennis on the sand?

Whether you just want to try beach tennis; or take a chance to win big bucks in the tourney, head to Virginia Beach to participate in this fun tennis event taking place on the oceanfront.

Date:Saturday and Sunday, June 10 -11

Time:10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. – Pro & amateur tournament play on Saturday begins at noon.

Divisions: Adult Amateur Women (NTRP 2.0-3.5), Adult Amateur Men (NTRP 2.0-4.0), Adult Pro Women (NTRP 4.0+), Adult Pro Men (NTRP 4.5+)

Where:

21st & 22nd Street (on the beach)

Entry fee:

$20 (per person) to play in the tourney, all registrants will receive a free T-shirt.

Prize money:

$1,000 will be awarded to the Pro division winners, with a total purse of $3,600.
