Garfield Joyner Jr. 67, of 321 Cedar St, Suffolk, died June 29, 2006 in Obici Hospital.

He retired as a shipfitter of 37 years in 2001 from Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry-dock.

He was also a man who loved to sing.

He began his singing career with the Spiritualities at the age of 15 and sang with the Pearly Gates of Suffolk.

He is predeceased by one sister, Laura Mae Joyner and one son, Tyrone Joyner.

He was the son of the late Garfield Joyner Sr. and Annie Massenburg Joyner.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 45 years, Muriel

C. Joyner; four daughters, Muriel Robinson (Johnnie), Jeanette (Alphonzo), Adrienne and Sade Joyner; three sons, Garfield Joyner III, Calvin and Luther Joyner all of Suffolk;

one sister, Annie V. Joyner of Long Island, N.Y.; one brother, Luther Joyner of Chesapeake; eight grandchildren, Julius and Brittany Joyner, Charles, Luqyia, Kiara, Jamia and Jailyn Hawkins, John Cobb all of Suffolk; two great-grandchildren, Nashyra Wilson and Jaasia Joyner; two aunts, Helena Joyner and Henrietta Mason of Suffolk; seven sisters-in-law, Jacquline (Luther), Katherine Hinton, Ethel Edmond (Junious), Ellen Massenburg (Ernest), Mary Williams (Norman), Janet Chambliss and Ruth Chambliss; two brothers-in- law, Bernard Chambliss( Evelyn) and Lewis Chambliss; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Viewing will begin Tuesday from noon until 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the St Paul R.Z.U.A Church at 619 Spruce St., where the host Pastor is Dr. E.P. Foreman.

Interment will be at Carver Memorial Park Cemetery
