Marcie Reynolds Thomason, 25, cherished daughter of William W. Thomason Jr. and Barbara Lear Thomason, beloved sister of Melissa Brooke Thomason and Laura Elizabeth Thomason, and adored fianc\u00E9 of Charles Cutchin Powell Jr., died Aug. 27, 2006.

Marcie and Cutchin were to be married in Lexington, Ky., on Sept. 30, at the First United Methodist Church, Lexington.

Marcie was born Nov. 24, 1980, and raised in Lexington. In addition to her parents, sisters, and fianc\u00E9, Marcie is survived by her grandparents, Marvin and Louise Lear (Lexington) and William W. and Grace Thomason (London, Ky.); aunts and uncles Cathy and Raus Chatfield (Lexington), William and Evangeline Lear (Lexington), Carol and Richard Bryant (Lexington), Susan Nichols (Louisville), and Mark and Melanie Thomason (Youngsville, N.C.); cousins, Jennifer Lear Eversole and her husband Eddie (Lexington), Carrie Lear Milner and her husband Barrett (Lexington), Robert Lear (Lexington), Eric Bryant (Richmond), Hunter Bryant (Lexington), Holly Chatfield (Lexington), Brandon Chatfield (Lexington), John Nichols and his wife Kelly (Louisville), Barrett Nichols (New York City), Taylor Eversole (Lexington), Connor Eversole (Lexington); special friends Liz Peace (Newport), Catherine Noyes (Columbia, S.C), Jennie Monette (Richmond); Steve Fugmann (Lexington), and many other devoted friends and

teammates.

Marcie’s fianc\u00E9 survives his parents, Charles Cutchin and Ann Royall Story Powell (Suffolk) and his grandparents, Robert Henry and Carolyn Cutchin Powell (Franklin) and Walter F. and Ellen Royall Story (Suffolk).

She attended Cassidy Elementary School, Lexington Traditional Magnet School and Henry Clay High School, from which she graduated with highest honors as Salutatorian in 1999. At Henry Clay, she was a National Merit Finalist, a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Student Council, Anchor Club, and SADD. She was selected as a member of the Central Kentucky Youth Salute and received numerous academic recognitions. Marcie was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Lexington.

During her middle and high school years, Marcie excelled at soccer. She began playing Select Club soccer at the age of 11.

Her club soccer teams were state champions five times and state runner-up once:

Lexington Avalanche (1992, 1994); Lexington Breakers (1995, runner-up 1996); Lexington Premier (1997, 1998).

She was captain of the Breakers and the Premier teams and was selected as a member of the Kentucky Olympic Development Program Team (1994, 1995, 1996, 1997).

At Henry Clay, Marcie started as a sweeper every year beginning in the 9th grade, when she was chosen Honorable Mention All-State. She was selected to the Second Team All-State in her sophomore year and was First Team All-State in both her junior and senior years (1997, 1998). She was Lexington All-City (1996, 1997, 1998) and was selected to All-Tournament teams in the: District (1996, Most Valuable Player 1997, 1998), Regional (1997, 1998), Bluegrass Cup (1997, 1998), and Lexington Cup (1995) Tournaments.

She was chosen Academic All-State (1996) and was captain of the Henry Clay girls soccer team her senior year (1998).

Marcie graduated from the University of Virginia, McIntire School of Commerce (2003) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce. At the University of Virginia, she received Intermediate Honors, was a member of the Dean’s List, and was inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Phi Eta Sigma, Freshman Honor Society, and the Golden Key Honor Society.

She attended the University of Valencia, Spain (summer of 2001). She was a member of the McIntire Marketing Association and served as a Madison House Big Sibling and Tutor.

Prior to graduation, Marcie worked as a racing office assistant for the Breeder’s Cup Championship (2000) and as a Racing & Nomination intern for the National Thoroughbred Racing Association/Breeders Cup Limited (2000, 2001). Upon graduation, she was employed as a certified public accountant in Washington, District of Columbia, first with the firm KPMG LLP, and currently with the firm Alvarez & Marsal LLC.

Marcie’s passions were her family, her friends, the game of soccer, travel, thoroughbred racing, and her beloved Cutchin.

She devoted herself to each of them with an infectious enthusiasm and sense of humor that earned her the love and the admiration of all she touched. She was a shining star whose light will not be dimmed by her untimely passing.

The family will receive friends at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main St. between 5-9 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 3. A celebration of her life will be held at First United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 4, with a graveside service to follow immediately at Lexington Cemetery.
