Two Wakefield residents accused of staging a robbery around 9:30 a.m. Thursday are now in Western Tidewater Regional Jail.

Carols Williams, 24, and Heather Holt, 20, are facing multiple charges for setting up the incident outside the Bank of Hampton Roads, said Sgt. S.W. Smith, a detective with the Suffolk Police Department.

460, told police she was taking the night deposit to the bank when a masked man stole an undisclosed amount of money and fled on foot, said Smith. A bank teller, who witnessed the incident, called police.

M.P. Uriah chased the suspect, but lost him in the South Main Street and Hall Place vicinity, Smith said. A few minutes later, Detective K.C. Hutts apprehended Williams in the alleyway behind the Suffolk News-Herald.

When detectives began questioning Williams and Holt, they were somewhat suspicious by the fact that both lived in Wakefield, Smith said. Additional interviews revealed that the two had staged the robbery, he said.

Williams was charged with conspiracy to commit grand larceny, grand larceny, wearing a mask in public, obstructing justice and possession of burglary tools.

Holt was charged with conspiracy to commit grand larceny and filing a false police report.
