WINDSOR – It is very possible that the duo of Desmond Williams and Kevin Swain make for the best one-two punch in the state.

Friday night the two juniors did everything possible to prove their case, trouncing the Eagles of Northeastern for seven rushing touchdowns between them in a 56-20 dismantling in a game where the Falcons never even attempted a pass.

Despite playing on a field that resembled a swamp as a result of heavy rains that continued throughout the contest, Swain scored three times on his first four carries to bring his TD total for the year to 18, only three behind the record 21 held by current Falcon assistant coach Christshawn Gilliam.

The Eagles got on the scoreboard first when receiver Michael Silver took a third down screen pass 42 yards to pay dirt with four minutes into the first quarter.

On Bertie’s second play from scrimmage Swain took a handoff across the left side of the defense for a 54 yard TD scamper tying the game at 6-6

After Falcon defensive lineman Corey Lassiter recovered an Eagle fumble, Swain got his second carry of the night on a third down run that he took 50 yards for another score to give the Falcons a 12-6 lead.

The Falcons kickoff team allowed the Eagles their best field opportunities all night, which was evident as Northeastern took the ensuing kickoff return back 80 yards for a score to tie the game at 12 apiece at the 6:08 mark in the opening period.

Not to be outdone by his backfield mate, Falcon QB Desmond Williams snuck up the middle for a 63-yard score two minutes later and after Swain converted the two point conversion the Falcons led 20-12.

After the Eagles were stuffed on their next series Swain ran right up the middle of the Northeastern defense for a 53 yard TD blast with just less than two minutes remaining in the first half.

Swain’s stats after the first quarter 4 carries, 169 yards and three touchdowns.

Northeastern’s Colby Morris tight roped down the sideline with 1:32 left in the half to bring the visitors within 10 points 28-18.

A huge third down sack by Sophomore Travis Bond midway though the second quarter stalled out a decent drive by the Eagles and on Bertie’s next offensive play Williams scored again on a 63 yard scramble that saw only one opposing player touch his uniform.

Williams’ stats after two quarters 6 carries, 137 yards and 2 touchdowns leading his team to a 34-18 advantage when the first half was over.

If there was any concern about the Falcons letting up after intermission, those thoughts quickly dissolved as Falcon junior Khyrie Jones took the opening kickoff back 90 yards for a score to put the Falcons ahead 40-18. Swain converted one of his four two point conversions on the night to make the score 42-18 Falcons.

Williams, not comfortable trying to launch the rain soaked pigskin, tucked another ball under his arm at the 6:53 mark in the third and did his best Michael Vick impersonation on a 46 yard score where several Northeastern players appeared to have the Falcon signal caller stopped behind the line of scrimmage.

After the Falcon defense, led by senior Kendall Bridgett’s seven solo tackles, stopped the Eagles on their next drive. Williams scored for the fourth time on another quarterback sneak going for 43 yards and an end zone celebration for a 56-18 Falcon lead.

The Falcon defense kept the Eagles out of the end zone after four straight stops at the goal line late in the game.

Northeastern managed a safety on the ensuing Falcon possession as Bertie Head Coach Tony Hoggard had already begun resting his starters.

The Falcon defense held the Eagles to under 200 yards total offense.

Corey Lassiter recorded two fumble recoveries and Travis Bond joined Bridgett in the sack column with one of his own.

The Falcons remain undefeated in conference play and prepare to travel to Currituck next Friday.
