GARYSBURG – There have been no new developments in the investigation of a Tuesday morning break-in here that resulted in a man being shot.

At approximately 6 a.m. Tuesday, Guy Suiter, owner of Suiter Bros. Inc, was arriving at his retail store to open for the day when someone ran out of his establishment.

Suiter yelled at the individual, who then turned and fired at him with a shotgun that the suspect had apparently stolen from the store.

Suiter was hit in the chest by the shotgun blast, but did not suffer any major injuries.

Capt. Daryl Harmon of the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office, who assisted Garysburg Police Chief Raymond Vaughan in the case, said the shop owner was doing fine.

&uot;The shotgun had #8 bird shot shells in it,&uot; Harmon said. &uot;Mr. Suiter did not suffer any major injuries and was did not require any major medical procedures.&uot;

Speaking by telephone Friday, Vaughan said that there have been no significant developments in the case over the last 48 hours.

&uot;Right now, we have little more than tidbits of information from two witnesses,&uot; Vaughan said. &uot;We are still working some potential leads.&uot;

The gunshot victim told law enforcement officers that he did not get a good look at the suspect and was only able to give minimal details.

Vaughan said there was an additional witness who saw the assailant, but that second witness account varied slightly from the shop owner’s description.

Vaughan confirmed that his department is looking for a black male approximately 5′ 10&uot; tall weighing about 200 pounds. He has a light complexion and sports what witnesses describe as a medium haircut

The suspect was last seen Tuesday morning in the area of Valley and Railroad streets wearing faded blue jeans and a white shirt.

The potential of a violent situation developing was enough for area schools and daycare centers to be put on lock down Tuesday.

Vaughan said he believed the suspect was familiar with the Garysburg area and wanted to appeal to the public for information from anyone who may have seen something Tuesday morning.

&uot;If there is anybody who thinks they might have any information, give us a call,&uot; Vaughan said. &uot;All information is helpful no matter how small you think it is.&uot;
