Rams rally past SE Halifax

CREEKSVILLE – Northampton-East scored in the fourth quarter in a 26-24 comeback victory over Southeast Halifax Monday night.

On the opening drive of the game East showcased their running game with Derryel Anderson rushing back-to-back for a gain of 10 and 14 yards.

Laquan Jacobs broke through Halifax’s defense for 16 yards and, following a loss, James Long cut up the middle for a gain of 13.

Two plays later it was Jacobs that found the end zone on a seven-yard carry.

James Long’s ran in the two-point conversion, giving the Rams an 8-0 lead.

Less than two minutes into the second quarter Halifax’s Shaqua Bowen connected with Tyrone Lloyd for an eight-yard touchdown reception. C.J. McGuire carried in the two-point conversion, evening the score at eight-all.

Two plays into their next possession, East fumbled the ball.

Halifax recovered the fumble, giving the Trojans possession in Rams territory.

On the next play, Terrell Williams caused Halifax’s quarterback to fumble.

The loose ball was recovered by Curtis Washington to give East the ball back on their own 41-yard line.

Anderson ran up the left side for a 23-yard gain, followed by a 16-yard run up the right side by Jackson.

Jackson ran untouched up the middle for the score, an eight-yard run.

The conversion run failed as East took the lead 14-8.

Halifax chipped away at the East defense as they worked their way down the field in 11 plays.

On fourth down and nine it looked as if the Rams defense would hold but Bowen hit an open receiver over the middle for 13 yards and the first down.

Three plays later Halifax faked the handoff, leaving the East defense going one way and McGuire rushing the other for a 15-yard score.

Elton Hyman ran in for the two-point conversion, giving

the Trojans a lead at 16-14.

East fumbled on the kickoff return, giving Southeast Halifax another opportunity to score before the half.

Long picked off the Halifax pass at the five-yardline, ending any chance of another score.

East kicked off the start the second half and the Rams defense stepped up the pressure on Southeast.

On third and long, James Jefferson sacked Bowen in the backfield for a 10-yard loss.

A high snap didn’t give the punter a chance to get off a good kick, giving East the ball on Halifax’s 23-yard line.

After a 10-yard gain by Jackson, Anderson ran in for the 15-yard score.

East couldn’t break the goal line on the two-point conversion but the score put the Rams back out front, 20-16.

East didn’t hold the lead for long as McGuire returned the kickoff 80 yards for the score.

The conversion run extended their lead, 24-20, going into the fourth quarter.

Jefferson recovered a Halifax fumble on the opening drive of the quarter, giving East possession on their own 28.

Two Jacobs carries netted the Rams 11 yards before a pass interference call on Halifax moved the chains.

East continued gaining small yardage before Jackson broke up the middle for a 27-yard run.

Two plays later Jacobs ran in for thefour-yard score.

The conversion run failed, but East retook the lead, 26-24.

Southeast Halifax tried to find the endzone again, but Jefferson sacked Bowen for a 20-yard loss on first down.

On third and long Bowen was again sacked, this time by Kameron Cherry, forcing Halifax to punt.

East was unable to reach the endzone but did run the clock down as the Rams held on to win, 26-24.

Jackson led the Rams with 79 yards on 10 carries, including one touchdown.

Jefferson came up big for the Rams defense, recording two sacks and a fumble recovery.

East will travel to Northampton-West Friday night.
