Western Branch (7-1, 5-1) at Nansemond River (2-7, 1-6) – 7 p.m.

Western Branch comes into their last two regular season games sitting on the bubble for a Division 6 playoff spot.

As of now, they’d be in, but one Bruin loss and Deep Creek or Landstown are both in position to move up and leave WB out.

Bottom line, the visitors should be in no mood to be courteous for Nansemond River’s Senior Night and season finale.

WB shutout King’s Fork (28-0) and Lakeland (48-0).

Last season, WB won over NR, 49-14.

Two current Warrior seniors, Justin Topping and Darryl Freeney scored NR’s touchdowns in that game.

Deep Creek (7-1, 5-1) at

Lakeland (1-7, 0-6) – 7 p.m.

Tommy Austin’s Cavaliers got their first win of the season last Friday as the strength of the team all year, their defense, held Norcom scoreless in three overtime periods.

Tonight is Senior Night at Lakeland as well for five seniors; Predist Walker, Mark Verschneider, Marque Cuffee, Andre Skinner and Demetrius Jones.

It’s tough on any member of a team that is going through a season that is definitely meant to build for a year or two down the road, but it’s especially so for seniors.

Last Friday was an excellent reward.

This coming Thursday will be Suffolk’s version of a playoff game when the Cavaliers and Bulldogs meet with the city title to be decided.

Deep Creek, coming off of a 35-0 loss to Oscar Smith and a 24-21 win versus Great Bridge, knows their spot in the playoff standings.

King’s Fork (3-5, 2-4) at

Indian River (4-4, 3-3) – 7 p.m.

Indian River was King’s Fork’s Senior Night visitor last November and the Braves built a 35-0 halftime lead on their way to a 42-6 win.

No one has beaten KF like that this season.

IR’s Dravon Poittilo is the third-leading passer among Group AAA teams in South Hampton Roads.

Last week’s rain, Poittilo put up 35 pass attempts in a 25-17 loss to Western Branch.

The Bulldogs have had success against pass-heavy offenses (Oscar Smith, Great Bridge, Wilson).

Even after the success of their rushing game in their win over NR, KF has shown they can throw the ball in the last few weeks.

KF’s still a run-first team, but Michael Mason has been a dangerous receiver the last two weeks.

Mason caught two TDs against Wilson and caught five passes for 75 yards against Oscar Smith.

Nansemond-Suffolk (2-7, 2-1) at Hampton Roads (5-2, 2-1) – 7 p.m.

Within the TCIS, this game is for a second place finish.

Overall though, in a reversal of the schools’ traditional places in the standings, HRA is the team that still has a chance, a slight chance, but still a shot at getting into the VIS Division 2 playoffs.

Tom York, who is in his first year at HRA after 15 seasons at Norfolk Academy, has turned the Navigators (1-9, 0-4 TCIS last year) around in one season.

In last season’s final game for both teams, home-standing NSA handled HRA, 46-14.

Two seasons ago at HRA, the Saints led 28-0 after one quarter.

It’s clear it will not be that type of game now against the Navigators.
