Man charged in weekend homicide

Police have arrested and charged a city man with second-degree murder in the shooting death of a Suffolk man early Sunday morning.

According to the Suffolk Police Department, William M. Jones, 24, of the 100 block of Morgan Street was taken into custody Tuesday night following an investigation into the incident.

Winston Carr, 25, of Chestnut Sreet, and Roosevelt Jones III, 28, whose last known address was Holladay Street, were shot about 12:30 a.m. Sunday on Chestnut Street.

Both were taken to a Norfolk hospital, where Carr died of his wounds.

The last known condition of Jones was reported by hospital officials as “good.”

Along with second-degree murder, the suspect has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding, two counts of the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and two counts of shooting, stabbing or wounding.

Police say they belive there was possibly some sort of altrcation prior to the shooting.

They are still searching for a small, mid-size white vehicle with a black stripe that witnesses said left the scene prior the the arrival of police that morning.

It isn’t know if the occupant or occupants of that car were involved in the shooting, said police.
