Remembering Tillman

Published 12:00 am Sunday, November 12, 2006

This weekend the Arizona Cardinals football team is going to honor former NFL player and veteran, Pat Tillman, by unveiling a bronze statue outside the stadium prior to the football game. Tillman, as many may recall, was a great football player at Arizona State and went onto the NFL to play for the Cardinals until he decided to follow his calling. His calling wasn’t the game of football but rather was to fight for the country that he loved so dearly. Sadly, he lost his life protecting others n serving his country. The story of Tillman is special because of the fact that he turned down a contract of more than 3 million dollars to do what he felt he was destined to do, which was to join the U.S. Army.

The honoring of Tillman is just one example on a national stage where people are taking this weekend, today to honor those who have served and sadly fallen while fighting for our country. Locally there are a number of events scheduled as well to honor those brave men and women.

Let’s take some time today, whether it is with a prayer or a moment of silence, to remember those who have sacrificed and continue to do so in the namesake of America.
