The United Way is a great organization that helps so many people in our community. Perhaps they have even helped you or someone who know.

In South Hampton Roads, they focus on childhood literacy, affordable housing and access to health care. Locally, United Way programs benefit people of all types of socioeconomic backgrounds, all races, and the young and old. More and more, the programs are helping the community’s working poor, said Tywana German, director of resource development.

This year the United Way of Suffolk campaign goal is $657,234. German said so far they have raised 74 percent of it. But she said she fears this year they might not reach the goal.
