Roland Calhoun Greene Sr., 83, died Dec. 2, at Nansemond Pointe surrounded by his family.

Born Sept. 24, 1923, in Gates County, N.C., he was the son of the late Novella Eure and Exum Calhoun Greene. Mr. Greene was a member of Cypress Chapel Christian Church for 40 years, where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Mens Bible class. He was also a member of the Izaak Walton League, Rogers Deer Club, American Legion Post 57, VFW No. 2582, Nansemond Lodge No. 77, Mount Nebo No. 20, Travelers Protective Association, and the Scottish Rite in Portsmouth. Mr. Greene was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Askew Greene; five sons, Roland C. Greene Jr. and wife Carol of Mechanicsville, Scott Greene and wife Billie of Alexandria, Dr. Nelson Greene and wife Brenda of Roanoke, Lynn Greene and wife Mary of Franklin, Jerry Greene and wife Jeannie of Corapeake, N.C.; brother Truman Greene of Eure, N.C.; sister Daisy Taylor of Eure; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, three step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in the R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory by Dr. John R. Kimball, with burial in Holly Lawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends in the funeral home Sunday from 7-8:30 p.m.
