Downtown Suffolk looks fabulous. It looks great.

It most undoubtedly will bestow Christmas cheer on even the most stubborn of Scrooges.

A walk down Main Street tells the story of Christmas n from Ole St. Nick and mistletoe to A Christmas Carol and coffee-sipping elves, all the while beautifying the window fronts of downtown merchants.

Thanks to the city of Suffolk and a number of talented children, the store fronts of the businesses have messages that remind us of all the wonderful things about this time of the year.

Look above those windows and one will see wreaths and lights all signifying that Christmas is near. The city has done another outstanding job in organizing and displaying the lights, wreaths and banners that are hanging from the street lights.

Everything combined, we have a Christmas wonderland right here in downtown Suffolk.

It’s great to see the merchants and the city partnering, working toward such an impressive exhibit. There’s no doubt that this year, with the addition of the new businesses, that

downtown is as pretty as any we’ve had before.

Christmas is about more than presents. It’s about having fun and being in a festive mood. It’s about holiday cheer, greeting our fellow man while we’re waiting for the bus stop, sipping our hot chocolate. Our downtown most certainly exudes the Christmas spirit.

If you haven’t taken a stroll through historic downtown Suffolk lately, then you should make it a date. Come and spend an evening at one of the many new restaurants and check out the other stores while you are there. Do your Christmas shopping with the local merchants who are working hard to make this the best season yet for downtown shopping. You are sure to leave in a festive mood.
