Mrs. Shirley Jean Whitfield, 69, of 105 Maple Lane, Windsor, died on Dec. 7 in Sentara Obici Hospital.

She was a daughter of the late Joseph N. Edwards and Annie Odell Knight Edwards and a native of Isle of Wight County. She retired from Community Electric as a custodian.

She was very active in her church, where she was a member of the Pastor’s Aide, Usher Board, Deaconess Board, and Sunday school at Piney Grove Baptist Church. She served as president on the usher board for many years.

Her survivors include: her husband Willie R. Whitfied Sr. of Windsor; a daughter, Renyta Whitfield of Windsor; a son Willie R. Whitfield Jr. of Suffolk; three grandchildren Mercedes, Rakeem, and Willie Rai; two great-grandchildren; one special aunt,

Velma Richardson of New York; three brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law; one daughter-in-law, Linda Whitfield of Portsmouth; a special cousin, Elsie Ricks of Windsor, three very special nieces, April, Shenita and Gabrielle Wiggins of Portsmouth; two close friends, Thomas and Linda Harden of Suffolk; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday Dec. 12 at noon at Piney Grove Baptist Church by Pastor Larry Parker. Interment will be held at Chapel Grove Baptist Church, 7399 West Blackwater Road, Windsor.

The family will receive visitors at 105 Maple Lane, Windsor.
