The case of a Boykins woman accused of trying to hire a man to kill her ex-boyfriend will be going to the grand jury.

That decision came out of Suffolk General District Court Monday as the case of Laura Beth Gray was before a judge.

Gray, 28, was arrested in October and charged with attempted capital murder after authorities say she tried to hire a man, an undercover Suffolk police officer, to kill her former boyfriend.

In information provided by the police at the time of Gray’s arrest, it was alleged that the woman provided the undercover officer with details, such as the type of vehicle the intended victim drove, his photo and a list of places he frequented.

The charge is a Class II felony, carrying with it up to 20 years in prison and no more than $100,000 in fines if convicted.

Gray has been behind bars in the Western Tidewater Regional Jail since her arrest.

In other court matters:

n Randolph Ricks, arrested in November and charged with robbery, felonious assault, displaying a weapon in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony and conspiracy to commit a felony, had a preliminary hearing set for Dec. 19.

According to police, the victim went to the residence of a female that he had met on a chat line.

While at the residence, the victim went upstairs to the restroom.

When he came out, there was a man standing at the bottom of the stairs with a gun.

Police say the suspect came up the stairs and struck the victim three times in the head and removed a wallet and currency from the victim’s pockets.
