Lady Cavs get first victory behind Arrington’s huge three and 38 points

Boys – Nansemond River 69, Oscar Smith 51

CHESAPEAKE – The visiting Warriors (5-0, 4-0) got a 31-point performance by Andre Jones to remain undefeated heading into tonight’s game versus King’s Fork.

Jones also added seven steals and six assists.

Quinton McDuffie scored 12 points; Nick Wright had nine points and 13 rebounds.

The Bulldogs (5-2, 3-1) and Warriors tip-off at 7 p.m. tonight at River.

Boys – Lakeland 74, Hickory 57

A 25-11 third quarter was the difference for the Cavaliers as they posted a home victory over the Hawks Tuesday night.

Hickory led 28-24 at halftime.

Mario Hunter led Lakeland in scoring for the first time this season, posting 15 points.

Kenny Fletcher scored 14 points; Darren Copeland and Tony Smith scored 13 points apiece.

Smith, Fletcher and Copeland combined for eight three-pointers.

After a four-game losing streak, Lakeland’s now won three straight.

The Cavaliers (4-4, 3-2) are now off until their Christmas tournament.

Girls – Lakeland 76, Hickory 69, OT

CHESAPEAKE – The Lady Cavaliers broke through for their first victory of the season.

LeCetra Arrington provided the heroics, scoring 38 points including a three-pointer to send the game into overtime.

Arrington made six three-pointers in all.

Terika Lunsford scored 15 points; Delicia Whitehead and Aldreona Williams added seven points each.

Lakeland outscored the Lady Hawks 14-7 in the overtime period.

In five previous games, Lakeland’s average offense had been 42.6 points per game.

The Lady Cavs (1-5, 1-4) are off until the Lakeland Christmas Tournament.

Girls – Nandua 49, Nansemond-Suffolk 27

In their last game before a two-week long break, Nansemond-Suffolk lost at home Tuesday to the Eastern Shore’s Lady Warriors.

Jenna Starkey led the Lady Saints with 14 points; Sarah Daniel was the next-highest scorer with six points.

NSA (0-8) goes to Greenbrier Christian on Thursday, Jan. 4.
