Andrew Butts, 65, of the 500 block of Main Street, Portsmouth, entered into eternal rest and peace Sept. 6, at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center, Portsmouth. A native of Nansemond County, he was son of the late Jimmy and Frances Edmonds Butts and the widower of Lucille Butts. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Marie Butts, and father and mother-in-law, William and Bertha McCray.
He retired as a welder at Newport News Shipbuilding Company. He leaves to mourn and cherish his memory, five daughters, Louise Bush (Larry), of Columbus, Ga., Benita Butts (Wayne) and Rachel Worrell, of Suffolk, Victoria Worrell (Frank), of Portsmouth, and Andrea McLaurin (Donte), of Smithfield; two sisters, Geneva Butts Hall, of Suffolk and Denise Johnson, of Newark, N.J.; three brothers, Jimmy Butts Jr. (Keisha), of Suffolk, Donald Butts (Ellen), and Rudy Johnson, of Newark, N.J.; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mary Belfield, of Suffolk and Emma Jean Beale, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one brother-in-law, William McCray (Janet), of Smithfield; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
The family extends a special thanks to the city of Portsmouth Fire and Rescue Department for their assistance. The funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, Sept. 13 at Crocker Funeral Home by Bishop Madison G. Copeland. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
