A man died instantly in an accident in the 3900 block of Deerpath Road around 7 p.m. Saturday.

Police say the driver, who had not been identified when the paper went to press, apparently veered off the roadway. The vehicle then struck a tree and caught on fire.

The driver died at the scene, said city spokeswoman Debbie George. Police say he was alone in the vehicle.

Police believe speed was possibly a factor in the accident, she said.
