Police investigate shooting

A Suffolk man managed to walk around for at least 10 minutes after being shot twice on Monday night.

Police were called to the 300 block of Hunter Street at 8:46 p.m. only to find no victim. Detectives spoke to witnesses and gathered evidence, including several different types of casings, at the scene.

The victim, James Tobias Hicks, of the 400 block of Hunter Street, was later found at the corner of Hunter and County Street. Police determined that Hicks was hit with birdshot in two areas of his back.

Hicks was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital by the Nightingale helicopter for treatment. The injuries did not appear life-threatening, said Lt. Debbie George, Suffolk Police spokeswoman.

Police are continuing to investigate the crime. As of Tuesday night, no arrests had been made.
