Gordon Worrell, the former chief of the Holland Volunteer Fire Department who is facing charges of sexual misconduct with three men more than a decade ago, will have three separate trials.

Worrell was also arraigned Thursday in Suffolk Circuit Court on a second count of indecent of liberties with a minor, prosecutor Nicole Belote said. He pleaded not guilty and asked for a bench trial.

The first bench trial, on one count of indecent liberties with a minor, is scheduled for Dec. 19 in Suffolk Circuit Court, said Belote. The other two trials, which will be done separately, are both set for Jan. 28.

Two of the victims were junior members of the fire department when Worrell allegedly made sexual advances on them, in 1992 and 1994, according to Belote. Worrell was charged with one count of indecent liberties with a minor in each of those cases, according to court testimony.

Belote said the third victim was a 23-year-old Smithfield Foods employee when the alleged sexual misconduct occurred in 1997. When the incident occurred, the victim filed a police report but no charges were filed at that time.

Worrell is charged with one count each of intent to defile, forcible sodomy and attempted forcible sodomy in the 1997 case, Belote said.

Worrell has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.

Worrell, who was raised in Holland, was a long-time member of both the Holland fire department and the Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad.
