America on the Move Family Day at the Suffolk Family YMCA

As more and more Americans face chronic diseases and obesity, our country is challenged with a public health crisis. A leader in community-based health and wellness, the YMCA is responding. You can be healthy and it starts with two simple steps.

America on the Move is a nationwide event to inspire individuals and families to incorporate healthy activities into their daily routines. America On the Move with the YMCA is part of Activate America, the YMCA’s response to the nation’s growing health crisis. Through Activate America, the YMCA is redefining itself and engaging communities across the country to provide better opportunities for people of all ages in their pursuit of health and well-being in spirit, mind and body.

The message for America On the Move with the YMCA is to move more and eat healthfully by making two small daily changes — taking 2,000 more steps (the equivalent of about one mile) and eat healthfully – reduce your daily calorie intake by just 100 fewer calories each day. Research from the America On the Move Foundation shows that these small changes have been shown to make a difference. While obesity rates are on the rise, making these two small simple changes can help prevent the annual one to two pounds of yearly weight gain in adults.
