Leon Davis

SUFFOLK – Leon Davis, 86, of 309 St. James Ave., Suffolk, passed away Sept. 23, 2008 in Sentara Obici Hospital. A native of Suffolk, he was the son of the late Etta Davis.
Mr. Davis was a retired electrician at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of East End Baptist Church, where he was chairman of the Trustee Board for 30 years, a member of the Revival Ministry, Building Steering Ministry, Evangelism Ministry, Accounting Ministry Team 3, men’s Sunday school class and Male Food Services Ministry. He also was a member of the Greater Suffolk Elks Lodge No. 206, Masonic Lodge No. 231, NAACP and former board member of Nansemond Credit Union.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Mary Joanne Davis; five daughters, Sandra Knight (Jefferson), of Chesapeake, JoLorraine Hubbard (Thomas), of Decatur, Ga., Joyce Davis, of Fairfax, Va., E. Leondra Bunch (Charles), of Portsmouth, and Vance Faye Davis, of Washington, D.C.; one stepson, Kareem L. Shambley (Jacqueline), of United Arab Emirates; six grandchildren, James “Jimmy” Almond (Sonya), Thomas Howard Hubbard III (Tiffany), Dr. Aviance Lewis (Darryll), Dr. Holly Hubbard, Vann Leon Davis, Melanee Davis, four step-grandchildren, Haniyyah Shambley, Sufyan Shambley, Musayib Shambley and Ubayd Shambley; four great-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law, Marie Edwards, Doris Pilgram (Les), Shelia McIlwain (Sylvester), Joan Cook (Arthur), Rose S. Brown; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2008 at East End Baptist Church, 523 East Washington St., Suffolk, officiated by Dr. Mark Croston.
