HAMPTON — Langley Speedway wraps up its 2008 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series points season this Saturday, Oct. 4, with Hampton Roads Toyota Dealers Night at the Races.

Saturday’s lineup includes: Crossroads Fuel Service Late Model Stock Cars (100 laps); Super 8 Motels/B&B Engines Grand Stocks (40 laps); B&C Seafood Modifieds (50 laps); Peninsula Hardwood Mulch INEX Legends (25 laps); and, Med Express Urgent Care Super Trucks (25 laps).

Gates open at 1 p.m. and afternoon practice rounds run from 2 ‘til 4. Time trials get under way at 4:30, right after the 4:15 drivers meeting. Pre-race ceremonies start at 6:55, while the evening’s feature slate commences shortly after 7 with the INEX Legends in the leadoff spot.

With one race to go, Danny Edwards Jr. holds a 26-point lead over his brother, Greg Edwards, in the chase for the ‘08 Late Model Stock Car title, 646-620. Danny owns the tiebreaker advantage with seven race wins to Greg’s two. A 14th-place finish in Saturday’s finale would be enough to deliver the championship to Danny.

In the Grand Stock division, Paul Lubno leads Jammie Goode by 22 points, 484-462. A tiebreaker situation would favor seven-time race winner Goode, so Lubno, winner of three events, will have to win the title outright. An 11th-place finish would give Lubno his second straight Grand Stock championship.

Joe Scarbrough enjoys a 24-point lead over Rusty Wood in the Modified points rundown, 546-522. Scarbrough has posted four wins to three for Wood. Should Wood win Saturday’s race, the tiebreaker would still favor Scarbrough (one runner-up finish to none for Wood). Chris Johnson ranks third, only two points behind Wood. Like Wood, he also has three wins this season. If Johnson wins on Saturday, his three second-place outings would give him an edge in a tiebreaker with Scarbrough. Scarbrough can avoid all the tiebreaking scenarios by finishing 13th or better in Saturday’s race.

Robbie Davis holds a 16-point lead over Tommy Nixon in the Super Truck standings, 502-486. Davis has four wins to Nixon’s none, tipping the tiebreaker in Davis’ favor. Davis can seal up the championship by finishing ninth or better.

In the INEX Legends division, Don McLaughlin enjoys a 22-point lead over Brad Hancock, 526-504. Currently, the tiebreaker favors McLaughlin, who has one win to none for Hancock. If Hancock takes the checkered flag on Saturday, though, the tiebreaker would swing in his direction (three second-place finishes to one for McLaughlin). McLaughlin will clinch the ‘08 championship by finishing 11th or better this weekend.

C.E. Falk charged from the 32nd starting spot to nab a sixth-place finish in last Sunday’s Bailey’s 300 at Martinsville Speedway – the “Super Bowl” of the NASCAR Late Model Stock Car season. Terry Carroll was 23rd in the feature event, while Greg Edwards came home in 33rd. Jason York picked up the win and banked the $25,000 winner’s check.

Racing action continues at Langley Speedway on Saturday, Oct. 11, with the Virginia State UCAR Championship and the Super Street Showdown presented by McDonald’s. Both of the headlining events will be 75-lappers. The Wolf Truck (35 laps), Pro 6 (40 laps) and Pro Winged Champ Kart (20 laps) classes round out the program.
