Suffolk Police have charged two men with armed robbery after they allegedly robbed a woman making a deposit outside a bank on Holland Road on Monday.
Michael J. McNair, 22, of the 200 block of Copeland Road, and Mark A. Slocum, 22, of the 7800 block of Quaker Drive, were both arrested after a short manhunt on Monday. They were both charged with armed robbery and abduction, according to Debbie George, a city spokesperson.
Police were called to BB&T Bank in the 1500 block of Holland Road around 10:50 a.m. Monday in reference to a robbery. Upon arrival, they learned that a woman making a bank drop had been robbed by a man who implied he had a gun. The suspect fled on foot after pushing the victim into a wall and taking her deposit bag, George said in a press release.
According to George, citizens made numerous calls to police to update them on the suspect’s location as he attempted to flee. Witnesses also provided information about a suspected getaway vehicle and driver.
The robbery suspect attempted to flee in a second vehicle, George said, but he was located and detained by police about an hour and a half after the robbery. The driver of the alleged getaway vehicle was also located.
According to George, additional charges are possible. Both suspects are being held in Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
Detective John McCarley is the lead investigator on the case.
