Garris Freeman Sr.

Garris A. Freeman Sr., 67, of 234 Forrest ST., Suffolk, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Jan. 23, 2009 in Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Nansemond County, Va., and the son of the late Charles Leon and Fannie G. Freeman.
He attended East Suffolk High School and was a member of Tabernacle Christian Church. He retired as a custodian supervisor for the city of Suffolk Public Works Department.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving devoted wife, Shirley M. Freeman; three daughters, Maria Freeman, of New York, Yvette Council, of Chesapeake, Va., and Marlita Jordan (Joseph), of Suffolk; four sons, Dwayne Reid (Sharon), George Reid, both of Suffolk, Garris Freeman Jr., of Washington, D.C., and Michael Watford, of New Jersey; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, three sisters, Charlene Freeman-Coker, Sandra Paul, and Joyce Stagg (Ernest), all of Suffolk; one brother, Charles Freeman, of Suffolk; an aunt, Mildred Freeman, and an uncle, Edward Goodman; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009 at Tabernacle Christian Church with Dr. Carlton Upton officiating. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
