Persie L. Stagg, 65, of the 100 block of Jordan Circle, went into eternal rest Feb. 3, 2009. Born in Suffolk, Va., he was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Stagg, and sister, Odell Holloway. He was a member of Body of Christ Community Church in Suffolk, serving as a deacon and trustee. He was president of Elephant’s Fork Civic League for many years, and a former member of the Suffolk City Planning Commission. He was also a retired corrections officer for the state of New York.
He was survived by his wife, Carolyn Stagg, of 41 years, and two daughters, Zoleka Reid (Norris), Chanel Bryant (Daryl), and three grandchildren, Caleb Stagg, Quincy Murphy, and Nya Bryant; five sisters, Margaret Hunter, Erma Burnett, Francis Brown, Matbell Boone and Linda Harden; three brothers, John Stagg, Robert Stagg, and James Stagg, and a host of family and friends.
A home going service will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, at Calvary Evangelical Baptist Church at 205 Gust Lane, Portsmouth, Va., at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery, Suffolk. Peebles Funeral Home is in charge.
