Betty Dildy-Goodman

Betty Jean Dildy-Goodman, of 201 Bunch Ave., Suffolk, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009 at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was a native of Gatesville, N.C. and the daughter of Mary L. Dildy of Suffolk, Va., and the late James Edward Dildy.
She was a member of Palm Tree Baptist Church, where she served as president of the missionary and member of the Young Adult Choir and Junior Choir. She received an Associate of Science degree from Paul D. Camp Community College. Ms. Dildy-Goodman was employed at the Department of Motor Vehicles.
She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Alvin Goodman; two daughters, Juanita Shorter (Antwan), and Alexis Dildy, of Suffolk; four stepsons, Kelsey Clark (Shani), of Richmond, Va., Alvin Goodman and Miles Goodman, of Suffolk, Marcus Goodman, of Portsmouth, Va.; one grandchild, Sydni Shorter; three sisters, Sharon Chapman (Randolph), of Suffolk, Vera Chavis (Donald), of Chesapeake, Va., and Mary Darden, of Forestville, Md.; one brother, James T. Dildy (Joylyn), of Suffolk; uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009 at Palm Tree Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Anthony Sommerville and eulogy by the Rev. William Hampton. Interment will be at Langston Family Cemetery. A wake will be Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009 from 6 to 7 p.m. Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. is handling the arrangements.
