Mr. Calvin E. Hodges, 418 N. Saratoga St., went into eternal sleep on March 2, 2009 in Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a former worker of Virginia Natural Gas. A member of Antioch UCC Church, he was a member of the male chorus. He was predeceased by his parents, Lonnie and Dorothy E. Hodges Joe, and a brother, Ricky Joe. His survivors include a wife, Shirley Hodges, of Richmond, Va., one son, Calvin Hodges, of Richmond, one grandchild, Calvin Hodges, of Richmond, one sister, Wanda Joe Perkins (June), two brothers, Antonio Joe (Jackie), and Lonnie Hodges (Barbara), all of Suffolk, and a sister-in-law, Michelle Joe, one devoted aunt, Juanita Yates, of Suffolk, a friend, Vannetta Williams, of Suffolk, and a host of other relatives.
A funeral of triumph will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Antioch UCC Church, with the Rev. Jarvis Jones officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2:30 until 6:30 p.m. Calvin will be placed in the church at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday for viewing until the service begins. The family will assemble at Harris Funeral Home on Thursday at 1 p.m. for the funeral processional. Harris Funeral Home, 685 Carolina Road, has been entrusted with the home going service.
