Beatrice Berry Luke, of Trinity Woods, Emporia, Va., (formerly of Liberty Street, Suffolk) died Monday, March 2, 2009 at her residence. She was a native of Suffolk, Va., and the daughter of the late Willie T. Berry and Emma Barnes Berry. She was also predeceased by four sisters, Helen B. Woodyard, Eloise D. Berry, Cynthia B. Jones and Zelma B. Flippen; two brothers, Willie C. Berry and James Berry.
She was a certified beautician for 45 years. Mrs. Luke was a member of First Baptist Church and its Willing Workers Club, Sharon Missionary Association and Missionary Circle. She was a founding member of the Suffolk Beauticians Association, and was instrumental in the state of Virginia issuing state licenses for beauticians statewide. She was a member of the Golden Gate Temple No. 9 Daughters of I.B.P.O.E. of W of Suffolk. She was a member of the board of Crocker Funeral Home.
She leaves to cherish her memory one sister, Margaret B. Williams; five nieces, Lynda Jones, of Westchester County, N.Y., Loretta Jones, of New York, Iman B. Jones-Doxen, Daphane Williams, Barbara Luke; five nephews, Donald L. Gerrish, James Cooper Gerrish, Charles Flippen, Kent Williams, Glenn Williams;
A funeral service will be at noon Monday, March 9, 2009 at First Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Steven G. Blunt. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, March 8, 2009 in the chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. The body will be placed in the church Monday at 10:30 a.m. Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. is handling the arrangements.
