Emily Wheary

Emily Robinson Wheary, 93, died Wednesday morning, May 20, 2009, at Lake Prince Woods retirement community. Born in Richmond, Va., she lived most of her adult life in the Edgewater section of Norfolk and moved to Suffolk in 2002.
She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, William A. Wheary Jr., and a daughter, Lucia Wheary Woodlan.
Mrs. Wheary is survived by her son, William A. Wheary III, of Norfolk; her daughter, Julie W. Johnson and husband, John, of Suffolk; three grandsons, John C. Wheary and wife, Sara Brooks, of Norfolk; David A. Johnson, of Decatur, Neb., Mark W. Johnson, of Suffolk; and one great-grandson, William Hunter Wheary, of Norfolk.
She attended Richmond Professional Institute (now VCU). A homemaker most of her married life, she worked several years in the president’s office at Old Dominion University. She was a member of the English Speaking Union, Norfolk Yacht & Country Club, the Chrysler Museum and the Edgewater Association.
Mrs. Wheary was a member of Oakland Christian Church in Suffolk. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church of Norfolk for 40 years.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, at Oakland Christian Church, Suffolk, by the Rev. Mark L. Burns. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
