In its second day of deliberations, a jury found a man guilty of the 1994 slaying of a 15-year-old Suffolk boy.

Shane Whitfield, who now goes by his Muslim name, Alim Naqi An’nur, was found guilty of second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of murder, shooting from an occupied vehicle and the charge of shoot, stab, cut or wound. Whitfield was sentenced to 15 years in the penitentiary.

The charges stemmed from the Feb. 26, 1994, murder of Domoniky Mizzelle. Whitfield was 18 when he shot Mizzelle with a .25-caliber semi-automatic weapon. According to the prosecution, Mizzelle had taken $10 from Whitfield and another teenager, Montine Jordan, to purchase marijuana in the area of Factory Street and Kissimmee Avenue. However, Mizzelle never returned with the money or the drugs.

Whitfield then went to Wilson Pines Apartments and picked up friends Corey Diggs, Alonzo Bowden and Marc Dyer, all teenagers, and returned to the Kissimmee Avenue area to get his money back. As Mizzelle approached the car, Whitfield pulled out the pistol and shot Mizzelle once in the forehead. The 15-year-old died the next day, and the case remained unsolved until being reopened by the Suffolk Police Department cold case unit.

Whitfield was arrested in October, a week after a grand jury handed down sealed indictments charging him with the crimes. He was living in Northern Virginia and working as a computer analyst.
