SUFFOLK – Hattie M. Simpson, 54, of 202 Clay St., Suffolk, Va., died Saturday, June 14, 2009 in Sentara Obici Hospital. She was a native of Suffolk and the daughter of the late James Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Baker. She was also predeceased by three brothers, James Thomas Baker Jr., Jimmy Baker and Joshua Mizell Jr.
She attended John F. Kennedy High School. She was a member of Word for Living Church.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Michael Simpson; four daughters, Stephanie Golden (John), Ashley Artis, Alisha Artis and Melissa Artis, all of Suffolk; four sons, Robert Baker (Dionme), Quincy Baker, Cornell Chalk and Keshawn Sessoms, all of Suffolk; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one godson, Dominique Mizell, of Suffolk; five sisters, Barbara Knight, Mary Baker, Brenda Person, all of Suffolk, Patricia Baker, of Smithfield, Va., and Shirley Boone (Daryl), of Suffolk; five stepsisters; four brothers, Ernest Eure, of Kinston, N.C., Henry Lee Baker (Ann), Henry A. Baker and James L. Mizell (Juanita), all of Suffolk; two uncles, George Reid and Larry Brinkley, of Suffolk; four aunts, Vivian Mizell, Martha Mizell, Priscella Mizell and Lenora Mizell; nine sisters-in-law and 17 brothers-in-law; a devoted friend, Michelle Simpson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, June 20, 2009 at New Mt. Joy Food For Living Ministries, officiated by Bishop Dwight Whitfield. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will be at Crocker Funeral Home Friday, June 19, 2009 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. is handling the arrangements.
