Langley goes green on Thursday night

HAMPTON – Six feature races, punctuated by the annual fireworks extravaganza, make up the card as Langley Speedway continues its 2009 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series campaign with a special Thursday night program.

The lineup includes: B&C Seafood Modifieds (50 laps); Old Point National Bank Grand Stocks (40 laps); EZ Auto of Newport News UCARs (25 laps); Standard Welding Pro 6s (30 laps); Larry King Legal Services Enduros (50 laps); and, Wolf Trucks (20 laps).

This week’s pre-race schedule is compressed with gates opening at 3 p.m. The invocation and National Anthem are scheduled for 6:55 and the Wolf Trucks lead off the feature program, shortly after 7. Independence Day fireworks, presented by the world-famous Zambelli Bros., are scheduled to blast off at approximately 9 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. “Little Race Fans” (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Military members in uniform are also admitted free. Military members in civvies (active-duty or retired, with ID) and senior citizens (60+, with ID) receive a $2 discount off the regular adult ticket price. “Family Packs,” which include two adult and two children’s tickets, are $25 – a savings of $5.

The season’s richest Late Model event – the Second Annual Hampton Heat 200 – tops the bill when NASCAR action continues at Langley Speedway on Saturday, July 11.

In addition to the Crossroads Fuel Service Late Model Stock Cars, next week’s lineup includes: Atlantic Power Sweeping Super Streets, Casey Cycle City INEX Legends, EZ Auto of Newport News UCARs and Rhonnda Claiborne, Realtor HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts.

A longtime member of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, Langley Speedway is a .395-mile, slightly-banked oval. The track is located at 11 Dale Lemonds Dr., off North Armistead Ave., in Hampton.
