City officials are moving full steam ahead on a request for proposals for the renovation and reuse of the historic Obici House and Carriage House.

The City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to put the request on the street. The winning offeror will renovate the historic homes and restore them for reuse.

The request will be advertised for 60 days beginning July 12. Proposals are due to the city at 2 p.m. Sept. 10. Two meetings — July 24 and Aug. 14 — will be held at the site for prospective offerors to examine the houses and ask questions.

The proposal should specify the proposed renovation and restoration, including cost estimates, preliminary drawings and schedule for completion, said Deputy City Manager Patrick Roberts. Offerors also should specify how much restoration they plan to do, and how much it would maintain the existing uniqueness of the structure, and their proposed re-use plan, including how much the proposed plan encourages commercial use for the building and how the proposed use is compatible with the golfing activities of Sleepy Hole Golf Course, on which the houses sit.

The request also states that the land underneath the buildings will not be sold, but the buildings themselves may be purchased or leased.

The proposals will be evaluated on a number of criteria, including the degree of architectural and historical preservation and the compatibility with the golf course, Roberts said.
