Suffolk Police have identified a suspect in a residential burglary who took a picture of himself with his victim’s cell phone before leaving the home.

Media coverage and Crime Line calls helped lead police to the 17-year-old boy, whom police will not identify because of his age. They also did not release a police photograph, despite the fact that his self-portrait has already been widely broadcast.

The boy allegedly took the photo of himself last month, during a burglary in the 200 block of Holbrook Arch. Detectives learned that during the burglary, the suspect attempted to use the homeowner’s cell phone to place a call, but was unsuccessful. He did, however, take the photograph of himself and leave the phone behind.
