Meeting to focus on Pitchkettle Road development

The Suffolk City Council will hear comments from the public about a rezoning request for a residential development off Pitchkettle Road during its Wednesday meeting.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. July 15 at 441 Market St. A work session will begin at 4 p.m.

The rezoning for the development, called Foxfield Meadows, was originally approved in April 2007. It included provisions that the developer, Cloverleaf Development, LLC, would work with a proposed development across the street to secure cost-sharing agreements for traffic improvements on Pitchkettle Road and at the Route 58 bypass.

However, the development across the street still has not begun construction, so Cloverleaf Development is asking for the project’s road improvements to be considered as a stand-alone project.

In addition, the development is adding about $2,000 to help pay for the extra school capacity the development is expected to generate. The money was not included before because many of the units were designated as age-restricted for seniors, and therefore would not be bringing in any school-age children. However, the age-restricted designation is being removed.

In other business during the meeting, the council will consider resolutions to accept a number of grants from state and federal agencies; an ordinance consenting to Charter Communications’ financial restructuring; and an ordinance amending city code to reorganize several boards and commission in the city.
