Richmond’s Ball wins state junior tourney

Richmond’s Adam Ball, 15, won the 57th Virginia State Golf Association Junior Amateur Championship on Wednesday at the Country Club of Petersburg.
Ball’s four-under-par round of 68 gave him a three-shot victory over Mikey Moyers. Ball had rounds of 67, 70 and 68 to finish 11 under par. Ball, Moyers, Daniel Walker and Ji Soo Park were the only golfers to play all three rounds better than par. Six of the 90 golfers in the field finished under par.
Leigh Preston, a Suffolk resident and rising senior at Greenbrier Christian Academy, was the top Suffolk golfer at the tournament. Preston finished with rounds of 76, 74 and 75 to finish nine over par and tied for 25th.
Lakeland graduate Ben Hunter finished tied for 36th at 12 over par (79, 73, 76). Cedar Point Country Club member John David Sanderson finished tied for 78th (79, 81, 81 – 25 over par).
