TowneBank on the way

Currently, the TowneBank at Harbour View is one of North Suffolk’s most regal buildings.

Opened just four years ago, the 60,000 square foot Member Service Center is located in the River Front section of Harbour View and greets customers with its classic brick exterior and massive white columns.

But even that building will be nothing compared to TowneBank’s latest venture.

A new 29,000 square-foot facility broke ground at the corner of Harbour View Boulevard and Harbour Towne Parkway last fall and construction is well underway.

“It’ll be the best looking building Harbour View,” said Charlie Edmondson, senior vice president for TowneBank. “It’s going to be a beautiful building and it’s going to dominate that corner and serve as a wonderful welcome into the whole area.”

The new location will serve as a retail-banking center for TowneBank, with banking on the first floor and the company’s investment and private banking groups centered on the second floor.

The new center will not replace the current Harbour View branch, Edmonson said, but it will be drawing employees from the both the Harbour View and Portsmouth branches.

Right now, Edmondson said, construction is on schedule and working toward the branch’s opening, which should be by the end of the year or beginning of 2010.

The exterior of the building is currently underway, and Edmonson said work on the interior of the building should begin within a month.

“We’re moving right along,” he said. “I think every thing is pretty much on time. We are very excited about it.”

Apparently, TowneBank has a lot to be excited about.

Last month, TowneBank reported a net income of $6.33 million for the second quarter ended a 4.73 percent increase over the second quarter results in 2008.

As the largest bank headquartered in Hampton Roads, TowneBank operates 17 banking offices throughout the region including Chesapeake, Hampton, Portsmouth, Newport News, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Williamsburg and York County.
